Why Prison Systems Around the World are Both Terrible and Monolithic

On a recent episode of What We Don't Know, Dr. Baz Dreisinger broke down why the terrible justice system the whole world seems to have, and why it has become the norm.

Yeah. The big takeaway is... Different country. Same shit. Yeah. The big takeaway seriously is that it's the same, same shit everywhere.

What is that same shit?

The same idiocy around incarceration. Um, the same way that incarceration is being used as a system of social control. The same way that it's this archaic system that doesn't make communities safer. The same punitive discourse, the same crises of re-entry and reintegration.

​And I mean, that's not an accident, right? Because the fact of the matter is that the modern prison is a U S. Invention that was foisted on the world through colonialism and then through globalization. So it's that it is this ridiculous cut and paste system of justice.
